Cigna Insurance is a global health organization that offers affordable insurance for healthcare and addiction treatment programs. While coverage can vary based on the Cigna Insurance plan, addiction treatment coverage could include:
Cigna Insurance has taken the time to start a Behavioral Health division to better support people who are struggling with addiction and their family members who may be looking for resources on addiction.
To that end, Cigna’s Behavioral Health division offers a free education series for those wanting to learn more about addiction, including those in recovery and their families. The addiction education series covers a wide range of topics, including the emotional, physical, and mental signs of addiction. Each lesson also offers useful advice.
Your addiction treatment benefits may vary depending on the Cigna coverage plan you have. At the lower end are the Bronze plans, which feature lower insurance premiums, but could have higher out-of-pocket expenses and deductibles.
The insurance premiums are higher for those with Silver, Gold, or Platinum plans, but there can be more comprehensive addiction treatment coverage with lower out-of-pocket expenses and deductibles. In-network treatment facilities have agreed upon treatment costs and reimbursement amounts. As such, your total out-of-pocket expenses are much lower when you use an in-network addiction treatment center.
Out-of-network addiction treatment means that the services provided are at a treatment center that has not partnered with Cigna Insurance. Using an out-of-network provider can require obtaining prior authorization from Cigna before they will cover any part of the treatment program.
Additionally, not all Cigna plans include out-of-network addiction treatment coverage. Therefore, any costs for the treatment would not be covered by insurance. Another drawback of out-of-network treatment centers is coverage amounts, when part of your Cigna plan, are typically limited in some manner, resulting in higher out-of-pocket expenses.
