Last week (March 22-28, 2021) was National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW). NDAFW is an annual health observance that inspires dialogue about the science of drug use and addiction among youth. During the week there are many ways that parents and youth can get the information that they want/need. For example, there is a day for youth to join an online live chat that allows them to ask experts questions on addictions and treatment in real-time. In this forum, they would be getting the facts straight from the scientist themselves. We all know how easy it is to get caught up in rumors and myths centered around substance abuse. They’re heard in lunchroom cafeteria conversations, gym class, online chats, and more. This week does a great job of putting those rumors to rest and arming our youth with as many facts as possible. Even parents can benefit from participating in this week, knowing how often new drugs appear in the world and the different terms that get added to hide them from parents. As we see more and more youth gain access to drugs and alcohol, this week continues to be important and highly recommended.
During the NDAFW each day, we shared an important fact about alcohol and drug addiction and addiction treatment. It’s never too early to start the conversation! Join your teen in taking this online quiz to test your knowledge on drugs & alcohol, addiction, and treatment.
